Hoopla is one of the two largest downloadable services offered by the Berlin-Peck library (along with OverDrive). With hoopla, you have immediate access to thousands of the latest movies, full music albums, eBooks, audiobooks, TV episodes, comics and graphic novels. The collection contains half a million titles and is growing every day! BEST OF ALL? There is NO WAITING for titles. You can read/listen/watch right in your internet browser, or download titles to your smartphone, tablet, Kindle, or other device, to use later. Titles are automatically returned once your checkout period is over, so there are no late fees to worry about.

hoopla or OverDrive? Because OverDrive has no montly borrowing limit, we recommend you check to see if your title is available on OverDrive first. If your title is checked out in OverDrive, head over to hoopla — there’s no wait!

How do I use hoopla?

Visit hoopla’s website for complete instructions on all available devices.

Read/Watch/Listen in your Browser

This option requires a constant internet connection. Titles will NOT be downloaded to your device for offline use. It’s the best option for desktop computers, or laptop computers when you have WiFi. If you want to read/watch/listen on the go with a smartphone or tablet, it’s best to use one of the other options below.

 

1. Go to the hoopla website

Click the link above, or visit hoopladigital.com. You may want to bookmark this page for easy access.

 

2. Register or sign in

If you haven’t used hoopla before, click GET STARTED and follow the prompts to create your new hoopla account using your Berlin-Peck Memorial Library card.

Returning users, enter your email address and hoopla password to sign in.

 

3. Search and browse

  • If you already know what you’re looking for, click SEARCH and type in a title, name, or keyword.
  • If you’d like to browse titles, hover your mouse over BROWSE and pick a format.
    • To see what hoopla recommends for you, click RECOMMENDED. (Settings can be changed at the bottom of the screen.)
    • To see what’s trending, click POPULAR or FEATURED.
    • To browse by categories, click CATEGORIES.

 

4. Borrow

Hover your mouse over a cover and select BORROW. Or, click the cover to go to the title’s details page (where you can see extra details and options for the title before you borrow it) and then click BORROW. You’ll need to be signed in to complete this step.

To see all of the titles you have borrowed, click MY HOOPLA.

 

5. Enjoy

After you borrow a title, a button will appear that says PLAY. Click and enjoy!

Android Phones & Tablets

Don’t go over your data limit! To avoid using wireless data, make sure to choose DOWNLOAD when your device is connected to WiFi, and give it time to finish downloading. Streaming (PLAY) options will NOT download to your device for offline use, and may use your mobile data if WiFi is not available.

 

What do you need?

Before getting started, you will need to install the hoopla digital app.

 

1. Set up the hoopla app

Open the hoopla app and follow the prompts to sign in (or sign up) using your Berlin-Peck Memorial Library card.

 

2. Search and browse

  • If you already know what you’re looking for, tap the magnifying glass (search) and type in a title, name, or keyword.
  • If you’d like to browse titles, go to the HOME screen, then tap a format.

    • To see what’s trending, click POPULAR or FEATURED.
    • To browse by categories, click GENRES.

These instructions are for Kindle Fire only. Your Kindle must be able to use apps in order to use hoopla. Hoopla is not available for Kindle e-Ink readers.
