Robert lived in East Berlin and was educated in Berlin; father was Frank. Robert was a World War II veteran. He was a bomber, radioman and gunner. He received basic training at Keesler Field, MA; transferred to Scottfield, IL and trained as a radioman. He attended gunnery school at Yuma, AZ He received his wings and was based at Westover Field, Chicopee, MA. He entered the service in APR 1943 and was a member of the 15th Airforce stationed in Italy aboard a Liberator bomber. He was killed 12 SEP 1943 over Germany; he would have been 20 years old on OCT 18th. He received Air Medal, Purple Heart, Presidential Citaition, and Citation of Honor posthumously. Robert was the 1st East Berlin youth killed in WW II. |
